My decision to specialise in medical negligence law is rooted in a strong personal commitment to supporting individuals who have been affected by failures in medical care. From the very early years of my career, it was the one area of law where I felt I could make a real difference to my clients’ outcomes and their future quality of life.
I find the medical aspects of each case fascinating; no two cases are ever the same, so this constant variety means that I am always expanding my knowledge across different areas of medicine, understanding accepted practice and identifying where care has fallen below a reasonable standard.
A key aspect of my role involves working closely with leading medical experts across a wide range of specialisms, anything from paediatrics, neurology, gynaecology, surgery, radiology to anaesthetics. I enjoy the forensic element of the work: carefully reviewing medical records, analysing expert evidence, and rigorously questioning and, sometimes, challenging expert opinion.
I also value the collaborative nature of the process. Instructing specialist barristers and working alongside them, as well as participating in conferences with counsel and medical experts, allowing us to refine and strengthen the case to be presented to the defendant. Ensuring that each case is thoroughly prepared gives clients the best possible opportunity to achieve a successful outcome.
A focus on supporting individuals
I act exclusively for clients who have suffered injury because of medical negligence. Many of my clients come to me at a time when they are struggling to come to terms with life-changing events, which may involve a birth injury, brain injury, complications following surgery, delayed cancer diagnosis, or the loss of a loved one.
In these situations, my legal expertise is only part of what is required. It is important to me to take the time to understand what each client wants to achieve – whether that’s financial security, answers about what went wrong, or simply the reassurance that their voice has been heard. I aim to provide my clients with clear, practical advice, but also to listen, understand their concerns, and guide them through what can be a difficult and emotional process. Often my clients feel let down by the medical system and I want to do everything I can to ensure they feel supported and that they can approach me about anything that is concerning them.
Handling complex and high-value claims
Most of my cases are high-value and complex medical negligence claims. When significant injury has been caused it is important to me to give consideration to issues such as my clients’ rehabilitation, ongoing care needs and financial security. Wherever possible, I will seek to obtain an early interim payment (an early payment of part of the compensation due) to help fund whatever specific help is required to assist my client achieve the best long term outcome.
Professional recognition and commitment
I am accredited by the Law Society Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme and am a member of both Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). These affiliations reflect my ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards of practice and staying at the forefront of developments in this complex area of law.
Making a meaningful difference
Medical negligence is a challenging but deeply rewarding field of law.
Ultimately, I specialise in this area because it enables me to support people during some of the most difficult times they will face, while also contributing to accountability and improved standards in healthcare. It is a responsibility I take seriously and a role I am proud to fulfil.
