Davies and Partners Chief Executive Ewan Lockhart, who is one of the UK’s foremost medical negligence solicitors, is celebrating his reaccreditation onto the prestigious Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA), Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel for a further five years.
In their confirmation of Ewan’s reaccreditation AvMA commented that “In addition to achieving very good outcomes for [his] clients, it was noted that claims were conducted in a timely fashion setting a high benchmark for other practitioners and ensuring that [Ewan’s] clients
were able to benefit from financial assistance at the earliest possible stage. The panel were particularly interested in the case involving Martha’s Rule and the implications for patient safety.”
Ewan has been a Member of the AvMA Panel for last 17 years and is also a Member of, and an Assessor for, the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme.
AvMA is an independent charity which supports people affected by avoidable harm in healthcare; to help them achieve justice; and to promote better patient safety for all. All AvMA Panel Members are required to apply for reaccreditation every five years.

With over 35 years experience in all areas of clinical and medical negligence, Ewan has developed particular expertise in more complex legal areas within the medical sector, focusing on cases involving catastrophic injury and fatal accidents including advocacy at inquests.
In recent years Ewan has been involved in several complex and high value claims including most notably the high-profile case when he acted for the parents of 13-year-old Martha Mills, who tragically died of sepsis while being treated at King’s College Hospital (KCH) in South London, following an injury to her pancreas. Martha’s parents, Merope Mills and Paul Laity, played a pivotal role in advocating for a unified system allowing families to trigger urgent clinical reviews when a patient’s condition worsens rapidly. This led to the introduction of ‘Martha’s Rule’ in hospitals across England in early 2024.
